Cool Experiences

So, Sunday I had some great experiences that I wanted to blog about. First, I was asked to speak in a Home Ward to try to recruit young single adults (YSA) to come to our Ward. I get there... a little late, and the 2nd Counselor of our YSA Ward that we were speaking with asked to see mine and the other speakers talks. We gave them to him and he took them, put them in his coat and said, "Today you will be speaking by the Spirit." It was great! I relied fully upon the Spirit, and it felt good.

Then I went to Church and our teacher in Relief Society didn't show up. So we scrambled during opening exercises to come up with a plan and BOOM! The Spirit took over again. It was the neatest thing. Two intense yet simple instances of relying upon the Spirit. He is the key to every talk, lesson, etc. we listen to and give.

Then that night Elder Bednar came to the Ogden Institute to speak to us YSA's. I debated on going to this. I was tired and ready to go home after Church. I sat in my car for a few minutes and called my mom to see what she would tell me to do. We were talking back and forth and I started my car to go home. Even started backing out when she said, "Listen to the Spirit, He will tell you what to do." Right then and there I pulled back in my parking spot and turned off my car. I needed to go to the fireside. My reasons for going home were lame. I am glad the Spirit gave me strength to overcome my lameness.

Elder Bednar's talk was perfect! It was what I needed. He and his wife were SOOO funny! I had never seen that side of him before. Usually he is very serious and I wondered if he ever had a funny bone in his body. I am here to tell the world that he does... for he had us all laughing. Then he got to his message and it was touching. About revelation, dating, making decisions, etc. I will go home and post my thoughts on his talk later. I am glad I went.

So, my lesson learned on Sunday?! Let the Holy Spirit guide! ;o)

Found Car

They found my car over by the 7th North exit off I-215 in a residential area. It has a few scratches on the outside of the car (where they had run it up against something), and the inside was just trashed with my stuff. They took my stereo, sleeping bag, tool kit, emergency car kit, and I really haven't checked anything else yet. They broke my driver visor off, and broke one of my A/C vents (because it was broken... I bet they were frustrated with it so they just broke it), and they took off my rear view mirror. I am so grateful I have my car back. My school books were in there with my school notebook, my registration information and garage door opener was also inside. I feel so grateful! I wish everyone could feel that! I am grateful for your compassion, prayers, and wonderful friendship.

This has seriously been a great faith building experience for me. I prayed specifically last night for things, and it all happened. I am so grateful. Our Father is so good to us! Thank you!

My Stolen Car

I have had many wonderful people ask me how I am, what happened, etc. I thought I would post the story here. Before I go on, thank you all for your Facebook comments, prayers, phone calls, texts, etc. I really love my friends!

I parked my car on the street outside my work (State Agency) at 8:45a. That was the last time I saw it. I worked a good day, busy, but good. As I was walking outside to get in my car to go to my 5:30p class, it wasn't there. At first I thought it was some kind of joke. But as I walked the parking lot at my work my car was no where to be found. Ok, I don't know how many have experienced this before, but walking out to get into your car and not finding it was a pretty sickening feeling. I mean, I was in a state of literal shock for about 4 hours. Then it hit me when I was home. Really hit. Back to the story though, after walking around making sure it wasn't put anywhere else, I went into the security guard and explained that my car was stolen. I asked if they could rewind the security tapes and they explained that the tapes do not cover the road. YUP! So, he called 911 for me and gave them my information. They told him that they would contact me, which they did. Now, I just have to wait to see if it shows up.

Here is the thing. My school books were in the car, along with my parking pass for school. My car had, ready for this, sit down, it had approximately 326,000 miles on it. Yup, she was a trooper! I had my 72 hour kit in there, and then my CD's. I don't really care about the things that can be replaced (CD's, 72 hour kit, etc.), but I do care about my school books, especially because I have a test next week in one of my classes. I care about my car. It was my Babe.

I know that everything happens for a reason. I don't blame Our Heavenly Father for this. Everyone has free agency. Some make good choices, others make really bad ones. I am grateful I was not in the car, I am grateful my car wasn't someone I love dearly. I truly am fine, it's just crappy timing! Thank you all again for thoughtful words, prayers, and for caring! I heart my friends.

The Date Box

Are you ready for this one? Really? Since the Brethren of the Church piloted the new singles wards program, and our small town of Hooper was the first Ward created...I have been going to church with great guys and gals from my small, delightful town. I am cool with that... only, I am the oldest one there by a few years. AWKWARD. If it wasn't for my calling I would have checked myself into the nunnery! Our Bishopric decided to help us poor farm kids get with the program, meaning they created "The Date Box." What is this? It's a terrible little box where ANYONE in the ward can suggest themselves or others to be matched up and sent on a date. The Bishopric approves the match and bang... the happy couple go on a date. Why am I against this you ask? Think. If a young man is not interested in a sweet girl, then he shouldn't have to be forced to ask her out. It's a waste of time for both involved. Sure, sure, we are to go and enjoy ourselves... have fun.... but take if from someone who has had MANY first dates, not getting a second date with someone you had a really good time with is quite hard on the 'ol self-esteem. Especially the older you get. So there I was, driving home without a care in the world (meant as a figure of speech... I have a lot of cares. That is why I am in Stress Management right now!) when I got a phone call from our second counselor. Yup, someone submitted MY name. If any fellow wanted to ask me out I would hope they would do it for themselves, not because someone made them ask me out. (Hence, my non-existent dating life.) Finally, I think this whole idea is making us lazy! *crawling down off soap-box* Thank you!

To infinity and beyond! Happy Birthday!

Great Leg Workout

Required:
Trampoline
Kids

So, this weekend I spent many great hours of playing "Rocket" with my nephews and niece. What that is, is you hop in the trampoline, hold hands with another person, and jump together counting: one, two, three.... then on three you lock down giving the other person all the bounce you possess and let them fly to the moon! This was the highlight of our weekend! And it was a killer workout for my legs!

Penelope, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion

So, last weekend was super fun!

Friday:
Had my cousin Kim come over to watch 'Northanger Abbey' before I had to go to our Relief Society Sleepover. I liked it all except for the end. I watched the PBS version and it was TOO short. They crammed in the love part of it all in 2 minutes. BLAH! We had a great time though. I need to see if I can find another version to watch... one that is preferably longer than and hour and a half.I was super worried about the sleepover. A) I am 30, and most of our sisters are younger... so I was worried that I wouldn't really fit in. B) We were sleeping on a hard floor. C) I was pretty sure I would be in bed by 10:30p. So I was pretty nervous, but hey, I had to support our decision to have this "Back-to-School Sleepover! Ok, I was up until 3:00a (there were only 3 of us up that late), I clicked SO well with everyone there~ making some enduring friendships, and I didn't sleep comfortably at all, but I didn't care! We watched 'Penelope', which has now become one of my favorite movies. Why? It teaches people that it's not what is on the outside that matters (meaning looks... I mean come on, some of us were not blessed with hottness), and that it's what is on the inside that matters! LOVE that movie! Plus, James McAvoy gives a skip in the 'ol heart in the kiss scene at the end. mmmmm!

Saturday:
Nap
Kim came back over... this time wearing a Jane Austen dress she made herself and all dazzled up as if she lived in that time period. She was GORGEOUS!! We all decided (me, Tricia, and mom) that we need to make a dress for ourselves and all dress up one night... wouldn't that be fun?! We watched 'Persuasion' and was not as impressed with the version we saw either. Don't get me wrong, the main guy was nice looking... but it was too short (an hour and a half). Then I suggested we watched 'Penelope' so that they could see how cute it was. (NOTE: Yes, I went out and bought it that morning because I liked it so much!) We all loved it, and yes, we watched the kiss scene twice! ;o)

Tasks:
Need to check out different versions of 'Persuasion' and 'Northanger Abbey' (any suggestions?)
Make Jane Austen dress to hang out in with Kim.
Remind myself that it's not what I look like on the outside that is important... it's what's on the inside that matters most!Watch kiss scene in 'Penelope' again ;o)
